as he hikes from Mexico to Canada

After years of planning, Neil’s off to the US to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, the “PCT”.

Follow his PCT blog 2017.

He’ll hike for 4 months covering over 4,000 km and wearing out countless pairs of sneakers! The trail starts at the Mexican border and traverses the lengths of California, Oregon and Washington, before casually meandering into Canada.

He’ll trek through the deserts of Southern California, dodging rattle snakes – there’s also rumours of mountain lions! Even in the desert, there’s mountain climbs with grand vistas, snow passes and all manner of little creatures.

Next up are the mountains of Central and Northern California, including the famous Sierra Nevada. This is bear territory – including Yogi’s home in Yosemite National Park – so he’ll keep his food locked away in a bear canister! Then into Oregon through forests, volcanoes and lakes, before the canyons and glaciers of Washington State. Then he’ll just stroll into Canada, hopefully with his piece of paper explaining why he didn’t go through an official border crossing!

This little tent will be Neil’s home for the next 4 months. It only weights 1kg and is pretty warm inside, as tested in an Australian summer! So, it’s yet to see the snow!
